Looking After Your Cake
Caring for something made by hand.
A little care helps your cake arrive at the celebration exactly as it was intended. Here is everything you need to keep it beautiful.
A little care helps your cake arrive exactly as it was intended.
Your cake has been made entirely by hand. These gentle notes will help it stay just as lovely from our kitchen to your celebration.
Transport
Rest the box flat on a level surface, ideally the floor of your car rather than a seat. Drive gently, avoid direct sun on the box, and keep the air cool. Your cake likes a calm, steady journey.
Storage
Keep your cake somewhere cool and away from direct sunlight until an hour or so before serving. If your celebration is warm, the refrigerator is a safe home, and buttercream is happiest brought back to gentle room temperature before it is enjoyed.
Serving
Allow the cake to sit at room temperature for around thirty minutes before serving, so every flavour can soften and open. A cake served a little cool can hide the very best of itself.
Cutting guide
Use a clean, sharp knife and warm the blade under hot water, wiping it between slices for a beautiful clean cut. Begin from the centre for tiered cakes, working gently outward.
Photography tips
Photograph your cake in soft, natural light near a window, and capture it whole before the first slice. These are the frames you will treasure long after the last crumb.
One last, gentle thought
Before you cut the cake, gather everyone close for a photograph.
The cake will be enjoyed in minutes, but that little moment, with everyone you love around the table, is the part you will hold onto for years.
