The Journal

The celebration that gathered four generations.

One afternoon of old photographs, shared laughter and a cake that tasted like childhood.

Dear Friend,

This is the story of one afternoon that nobody wanted to end.

It began, as the best days often do, very quietly.

It was meant to be a simple anniversary lunch. Then a daughter arrived, and a grandson, and a tiny great-granddaughter who slept through most of it in someone's arms. Four generations, all in one room.

A cake cannot hold a family together. But for one afternoon, it can gather them.
A romantic red heart-shaped anniversary cake edged with red buttercream rosettes and delicate white flowers, on a pink pedestal stand
A recipe remembered from decades ago, made new again.

They had asked for a flavour the grandmother remembered from her own wedding. When she tasted it, she closed her eyes. The whole room went still. And then everyone was talking at once, sharing stories I suspect had not been told in years.

With love,
